Pine Ridge Elementary School | Winkler, MB

LEED® Silver

Pine Ridge Elementary School is a new 86,500 square foot school to be constructed in the city of Winkler, Manitoba. The new kindergarten to grade 8 school will host a student population 675 children, and 74 pre-school children in an attached Childcare suite. The school has been designed to allow for a future addition such that the school population can swell to 875 children to meet the needs of the growing community.

The new building is designed to organize spaces around a central commons. Community spaces such as the gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms, and the library are all directly accessed from the commons, with the administration suite also directly linked for security and supervision. Classrooms are organized along streets that extend off the central commons square, allowing for students to be grouped and organized by age and grade for social interaction and operational efficiency.

Energy efficient design solutions are integrated seamlessly into the building fabric. Considerations on building orientation, spatial planning, selection of materials and mechanical and electrical systems were made not only for their environmental impact, but also for their contribution to a community based learning centre designed to foster growth and well being of all occupants. The building design is targeted to achieve a LEED™ Silver rating.
