Brandon Sportsplex Pool Addition & Mechanical Upgrades
Originally constructed for the 1979 Canada Winter Games by the City of Brandon, the multi-use recreational facility features an 50 metre swimming pool, indoor ice hockey arena, racquetball courts, as well as, outdoor track and field facilities.
As part of the City of Brandon Community Services Department’s Recreation & Community Facilities Master Plan Update, MCM coordinated the restoration and renovation of the Sportsplex’s Kinsmen Pool. In order to house the necessary mechanical equipment required for the existing pool, a steel clad, two-story addition was constructed along the building’s existing west facade. Various pool equipment upgrades involved multiple new filter installations, main/auxiliary pumps, dehumidifiers, UV filter, installation of main drains, diverting valves, 25 skimmers and renovated pool/area lighting.
The existing pool surface was removed along with the remediation of hazardous materials, allowing for the repair of the existing concrete sub-structure. New pool curbs were constructed with hand-grip ceramic tiles, complete with a total re-surfacing of the pool and surrounding area. The renovated pool now provides the City of Brandon and its residents with a lower maintenance facility that exceeds the hygienic standards mandated in the Water Recreational Facilities Regulations.
