Dood Cristall Family YMCA | Brandon, MB

LEED® Silver

The YMCA project involved the construction of a new 2,200 m.sq. aquatic and fitness centre as well as renovations to the existing 1,400 m.sq. YMCA facility.

The new addition and renovations were designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification using a combination of innovative strategies. These include the design of an energy efficient building envelope, the collection and treatment of pool water overflow for use in the building’s grey water systems, intensive water conserving strategies in all change rooms and washrooms, as well as significant passive solar and day lighting provisions contribute to an environmentally responsible design directed towards a vision of environmental and community sustainability.

High efficiency plumbing fixtures were used throughout the facility including the shower heads and faucets. Pool overflow and storm water, normally sent into the local drainage system are redirected, through an innovative grey-water system using the facility’s original abandoned pool tank for storage, grey-water is recycled in toilet fixtures before being released back into the city’s sanitary system.
