Stanley Business Centre | Winkler, MB
Situated between Winkler and Morden, Manitoba, the new Stanley Business Centre sits prominently on the main vehicular corridor linking the two communities. Three unique yet architecturally cohesive buildings occupy the site with varying programs and tenants.
Sustainable design practices were incorporated into the site design, building systems, and use of materials, considering the relationship between all these components in creating an enjoyable work space for its occupants.
Site development included retention ponds that control water runoff as well as provide a natural habitat for wildlife; allowances for green space; indigenous landscaping; solar and wind shading; pedestrian and bicycle pathways; outdoor sitting and eating areas; and a central geothermal system buried beneath the parking lot which provided highly efficient heating and cooling to each of the three buildings.
Building considerations included: attention to orientation; day lighting allowances; the employ of indigenous and locally manufactured materials; high efficiency mechanical and electrical systems; and durable/low maintenance materials, which create an enjoyable working and operational experience in the buildings for years to come.
